Writers Residency, 11 — 18 September 2019
Judith Hagan, Jessica Higgins and Rebecca Wilcox will be in residence at The Bower, bringing together an ongoing dialogue which has been exploring the active unfurling of both reading and writing as practices. They have been sharing works and texts since 2017, when they co-edited the A Plume Annual Volume One. Shaped via remote conversations, the publication gathered text works from artists and writers. It explores ideas around habit and instinct, and how those states jostle and intercede with intent in the crafting of written work.
The act of writing extends itself as a crucial mechanism through each of their individual practices via experimental prose & poetry, performance, and sound & video works – as does an interest in the layerings of subjectivity, transcription and translation within their visual practices, activating textures, sites and surfaces.
Join us for an informal event in the park on Tuesday 17 September, 7.30—9pm where they will share readings from a publication of new work printed at London Centre for Book Arts.

Rebecca Wilcox (Glasgow) works with writing, audio, video and performance, often using her voice as a tool. Recent projects include a live performance for Radiophrenia festival, a collaboration with Amelia Bywater for LUX Artists’ Moving Image Festival, and a text responding to Ann Quin’s writing for Glasgow Women’s Library + MAP. She has published work with Good Press, Hour Editions and F.R, David. Along with Sarah Rose and Scott Rogers she organises tenletters, an exploration of expanded forms of publication, housed in a flat.
Jessica Higgins (Glasgow) works across performance, writing, installation and publishing. She has performed and exhibited at Supernormal Festival, Outskirts Festival, David Dale Gallery, The Bower, and Glasgow International Festival. Her writing has been published by Publication Studio London, A6 Books and Embassy Gallery and her itinerant and collaborative practice with Matthew Walkerdine which focusses on expanded methodologies of publishing in response to archival material has been commissioned by Turf Projects and Edinburgh Printmakers. She aslo co-runs Good Press, a volunteer-led-unfunded-informal-organisation dedicated to the promotion and production of independent artist publications and projects.
Judith Hagan (London/Glasgow) works through writing, painting and more recently film, and is interested in exploring the shape, processes and patterns of thinking; in the borders of self and of sense making, and in attempts to transgress the processes that lead there. She is currently studying on the writing programme at the Royal College of Art, and has recently edited and/or contributed to publications such as NOIT (Flat Time House), Le Grand K, and Attention! (RCA) and has exhibited and performed readings as Gossimer Fog and V&A.
