Oona Grimes /The last of the Etruscans!

Publication launch and closing event

21 July 2019 2-5pm

Join us for an Etruscan feast in Brunswick Park to celebrate The last of the Etruscans!  We will be serving libations and delicacies, hosting games, readings and bird warbling as well as presenting prizes, all with a musical accompaniment. This is also the last day to see the exhibition Hail the new Etruscan #3 at The Bower.

What one wants is contact.
The Etruscans are not a theory or a thesis.
If they are anything, they are an experience.

In 2018 Oona Grimes spent 8 months on a Bridget Riley Fellowship at the British School of Rome, revisiting the films of the Neorealists, watched as a child and mis-remembered ever since. She made a significant shift in her practice to explore film-making and performance for the first time. She also spent time in Etruscan tombs and became fascinated by this ancient civilisation, on whom there are no archives and no recorded language, just tombs of painted birds and celebrations of life, wine and feastings.

Hail the New Etruscan #3 at The Bower is the third in a series of exhibitions made since the fellowship in

Rome - with #1 and #2 manifesting as solo exhibitions earlier this year at Danielle Arnaud and Matt’s Gallery respectively.  The final iteration is a publication with texts by Lucy Reynolds and Tony Grisoni, published by Publication Studio London to coincide with the exhibition.

Free. All welcome! No booking required.
